Dimbleby’s Citroen DS for sale

Fri, 07 Mar 2014

DAVID DIMBLEBY'S 1972 Citroen DS21 is up for sale and expected to fetch £20,000 when it’s auction off.

Finished in metallic grey paint, the iconic French saloon has been owned by Dimbleby since he discovered it underneath railway arches in Battersea, London. The car was being restored by a specialist there and Dimbleby fell in love with the car.

He said: ‘I bought the car because my wife said it was the most beautiful car she had ever seen. The restorer said that he had just finished restoring one for Damien Hirst, so that rather turned me on to it.’

The same car is believed to have been used in the film ‘The Last King of Scotland’ about the dictator Idi Amin.

Dimbleby is not certain if the car was used in the film and said: ‘It was red when I bought it. According to the restorer it had been used in the film The Last King of Scotland as Idi Amin’s car – I don’t know if you can prove that but it was painted the same colour. We had it restored to the original Citroën colours of stormy grey with the red interior.’

Dimbleby has decided to sell the car as he no longer has the time to drive it due to work commitments. He added: ‘Everyone who has ever sat in it says it’s the most comfortable car they have ever been in – driving it is like sitting in an armchair.
