James May Science Museum App

If you fancy the idea of Top Gear’s James May teaching you science then a new App from the Science Museum is right up your street.

Regular Top Gear viewers may remember Messrs Clarkson, May and Hammond taking on ‘Art’ a few seasons ago to teach Northerners how to appreciate galleries.

Part of what they did – apart from stealing ’Footballists’ to populate the gallery – was an audio guide for the art gallery tour narrated by James May. Trouble was, everyone got lost and bored to tears by May’s verbosity.

But it seems that hasn’t put the Science Museum off the idea; not one bit.

You can now download an App – for i-things or Android – that places a virtual James May in your Smartphone to teach you all you ever wanted to know about some of the exhibits in the Science Museum - Puffing Billy, Model T Ford, Rolls Royce Merlin engine and other iconic objects – and then get quizzed at the end.

Not only do you get a tiny little augmented reality May just where you want him when you’re at the Science Museum, you can even download a ‘marker’ from the Science Museum’s website so you can point your smartphone at it and pretend you’re in South Ken.

There’s apparently no truth in the rumour that UNISON members can now download an App with a miniature Clarkson explaining the benefits of membership.
