Dodge Charger recall prompted by headlight issue

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

It's been an unfortunate week for Fiat-Chrysler recalls. We reported yesterday that the company issued return-to-dealer orders for the Fiat 500L, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango. Now it turns out that owners of Dodge's muscle sedan may have a trip to the dealer in their immediate future. The company is recalling 49,375 Chargers for potential headlight issues affecting 2011-2012 model-year vehicles.

The issue is related to a potentially-problematic headlamp wiring harness; police-issue vehicles saw an earlier recall due to the extended strain law-enforcement operation puts on the lights. Having determined that civilian Charger owners could also be at risk of the harness overheating, the company issued the recall maily affecting 43,450 cars in the United States. An additional 5,925 cars living abroad are also covered. Dealers will inspect the harness, housing and bulbs to make sure everything's in order.
