Dodge lands anchorman Ron Burgundy as spokesman

Mon, 07 Oct 2013

Dodge landed legendary anchorman Ron Burgundy as its new spokesman for the 2014 Dodge Durango. Will Ferrell's character will host several spots shown on broadcast, cable, and on the Internet at funnyordie.com or burgundydodge.com.

The 2014 Dodge Durango is on sale now with a base price of $30,790. It comes standard with an eight-speed transmission and a 290-hp V6, a 360-hp Hemi V8 is optional. Also standard are projector headlights and fog lights, a floating split crosshair grille, LED taillights, 18-inch or 20-inch aluminum wheels, Bluetooth, touchscreen information center, rotary shifter, keyless entry and ignition, seven airbags and more. The seven-passenger vehicle can tow up to 7,400 pounds when properly equipped.

The first spot, called Horsepower, has Burgundy berating a horse for only having 1 horsepower, while the Durango has 360. “On my right is the new Dodge Durango with up to 360 horsepower. On my left is one horse (points to horse). With 1 horsepower. That makes you feel pretty dumb, doesn't it?”

The second spot confuses Burgundy with the term “MPG,” though we aren't sure why. MPGs were definitely something manufacturers were thinking about in the '70s. “emm..pah..gahs? What? mup-ah-gahs? Imp-a-gahs? I'm saying it right…but it just doesn't sound familiar.”

The glove compartment spot is one of our favorites. Instead of talking about the Hemi, like most spokesmen, he talks about the luxuriousness and spaciousness of the glove box. “It comfortably fits two turkey sandwiches or 70 packs of gum!” Burgundy then starts tossing handfuls of gum all over the stage.

The “Ballroom Dancers Hide” spot features Burgundy popping out of a Durango while dancers sneak on stage. It will air during the "Dancing with the Stars" television show on Monday night. The full 60-second spot will note the Durango's power and elegance before Burgundy jumps out and yells “Hey, get out of here you dumb dancers! I told them 100 times they can't dance in here.” He apologizes, asks them to come back, then proceeds to go after them a second time. “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” comes out Dec. 20 in theaters everywhere.
