Drivers make New Year Resolutions

Wed, 08 Jan 2014

MORE THAN half of British drivers have made a New Year’s Resolution, with many promising to drive more courteously or more economically.

A survey by motoring organisation the AA found that 14% of drivers will make the effort to drive for greater economy, while 11% said they would walk more to save fuel.

A further 6% are aiming to drive less and 5% want to cycle more to cut down on car use.

The most popular ways to be more courteous include driving more safely (4%), not exceeding the speed limit (3%) and be less aggressive (1%).

However, 42% of drivers polled said they would not be making a New Year’s Resolution.

Edmund King, AA President, said: "At the start of the New Year, many drivers have good intentions to save money by driving less and exercise more. Walking and cycling are excellent contributors to fitness, so the AA hopes these drivers will stick to their resolutions which will lead to a healthier population and safer roads."
