Ferrari LaFerrari: Official – UPDATED + video

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

The Ferrari that was the F150 is LaFerrari and has been officially revealed at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show to take on the McLaren P1.

Revealed this morning at the Geneva Motor Show, LaFerrari is Ferrari’s answer to the McLaren P1 – and it’s a very strong answer too.

Both the P1 and LaFerrari are hybrid cars with very similar performance (McLaren P1 specs here).

LaFerrari has a normally aspirated V12 of 6.3 litres that produces 789bhp and revs to 9250 and an electric motor good for 161bhp more for a total of 950bhp.

LaFerrari weighs in at 1255kg and has performance very close to that of the P1 – 0-62mph in under 3 seconds and 0-186mph in a scant 15.5 seconds (that 0-186mph time is 1.5s quicker than the P1). Ferrari say LaFerrari will be able to lap the Nurburgring in under 7 minutes and seems as quick round Fiorano as the 599XX.

LaFerrari is longer (100mm) and wider (50mm) than the P1 and sits 54mm lower (hard to believe) with more weight at the back (59%) than the front.

The chassis tub is made of carbon fibre by Ferrari’s racing department with rigidity up on the Enzo by 27 per cent.

LaFerrari has been designed in-house by Ferrari with a nose that looks very F1 inspired, massive haunches and smart aerodynamics that move diffusers and the rear wing for optimal aerodynamics.

As we reported before, Ferrari are building 499 LaFerrari cars and each costs €1.3 million – and all are already sold. Delivery will start at the end of October and run on until the end of 2015.

We’ll report back with more on LaFerrari as we digest all that’s on offer.
