Ford Kuga Coupe planned?

Fri, 19 Jun 2009

It looks as if Ford are planning a Ford Kuga Coupe for 2011

But Ford are obviously looking with interest at the ‘Style’ element of the market place. As people are downsizing in the current recession there are plenty looking for something that still says ‘Individual’ but without the price tag of the premium makers. And it appears as if Ford are seriously considering producing a ‘Style’ version of the Kuga – The Ford Kuga Coupe.

Think of this in terms of BMW’s X6. A 4×4 coupe with looks and a degree of practicality. And if the picture here is anything to go by the Kuga Coupe looks like it could be a winner.

The styling is the key, and the Kuga Coupe will look like a cross between the existing Ford Kuga and the Ford Iosis Max Concept we saw at Geneva (which is the basis for the next Ford Focus) and will, to all intents and purposes, be an affordable mini BMW X6.

It’s reckoned that as the Kuga Coupe will be a lifestyle car that the majority of models will be FWD, but with a 4WD option. Power plants are likely to be the same as in the upcoming new Ford Focus, and include the 148bhp and 178bhp 1.6 litre EcoBoost lumps as well as the economical diesels.

This looks a cracking idea. With Ford working on the new Ford Focus and C-Max at the moment it is unlikely the Ford Kuga Coupe will see the light of day until 2011. But if Ford do go this route, as well as seeing the new Ford Capri through to fruition, they are going to rapidly start to dominate the market once more in stylish, mainstream cars.
