Fornasari Racing Buggy concept

Fri, 26 Jun 2009

Fornasari, a small independent automaker based in Italy, has recently completed a new 'Racing Buggy' concept, which will be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

The 2+2-seat concept is a powerful, functional and extreme off-road vehicle with a removable roof and doors. It measures 4350mm long, 2000mm wide, 1720mm high and has a 2750mm wheelbase. According to Shuai Feng, one of three designers who worked on the project, the modular aspects of the prototype's design embody freedom, lifestyle and leisure, as well as the "typical spirit of a racer". The two-tone, matte finish body colors and 'off the shelf' materials such as aluminum, carbon fiber and titanium could be specified by future clients.

"The car's bones are a special steel tubing chassis in molybdenum-chrome," Feng says, "More than 450 tubes go across in order to obtain stiffness and torsion capability, while keeping the overall chassis weight down to 150kg." The vehicle is powered by a 7.0-liter General Motors-sourced 8-cylinder engine which can be mated to either a manual or an automatic transmission, both with six speeds.
