Frankfurt Motor Show 2009 Preview

The Frankfurt Motor Show 2009 runs from 17th -27th September to the public

Many of the Japanese makers will be conspicuous by their absence, but that should be more than made up for by the launches from the big European makers. And of course the Koreans – in the guise of Hyundai and Kia – will do what they’re starting to do in the market place and fill the gap left by the Japanese.

You can already check out all the stories in one place for The Frankfurt Motor Show 2009, but we thought we’d highlight a few of the cars we know are making an appearance, in case you’ve missed them in the last few weeks.

Alfa Romeo MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde

The new 170bhp Alfa MiTo – the closest to a GTA for noew – will be at Frankfurt.

Aston Martin Rapide

The latest piece we did was on the Aston Martin Rapide video, but we get to see the final, production-ready Rapide in the flesh at Frankfurt.

Audi A5 Sportback

It wouldn’t be Frankfurt without an Audi or two, and the new A5 Sportback will be putting in an appearance.

Audi S5 Sportback

The range topping, 3.0 litre supercharged S5 Sportback will be on show.

Audi R8 Spider/Convertible

This has been on the cards forever. But after a leak by a UK dealer, it seems certain that the new Audi R8 will only be available as a V10. We’ll find out.

Audi R8 Electric

This one is another of those rumours. It is quite possible Audi will bring along a concept version of the R8 with electric motors, but it’s far from a certainty.

Audi RS3

Thanks to a Tweet by a South African Audi dealer, we now know that the new Audi RS3 will show at Frankfurt, complete with the 335bhp engine from the TT RS.

Bentley Mulsanne

Only just previewed at Pebble beach, the Mulsanne – Bentley’s ‘Not a Replacement for the Arnage’ will get its European début and, hopefully, a bit more about the oily bits.

Bentley Series 51

Bentley will be showing their bespoke option package for the Bentley Continental range – Series 51 Options

BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept

This is a BMW super-eco concept. We now know this is a 1.5 litre, 3-pot diesel with 2 electric motors. And it looks very good.

BMW 320d EfficientDynamics

Another ultra frugal BMW, this time a 32d which id offering 68mpg and a 0-60mph of 8.0 seconds.

BMW 5-series GT

Be interesting to see the BMW 5 Series GT in the flesh. In print it looks like a niche too far. But it’s worked for Audi

BMW X1

BMW’s mini SUV puts in an appearence for its official reveql. But we already have lots of information on Cars UK.

BMW ActiveHybrid X6

Claimed to be the most powerful Hybrid in the world, the new BMW X6 Hybrid will be there in the flesh.

BMW ActiveHybrid 7

Utilising a different Hybrid system to its sister the X6 Hybrid, this almost seems like a Hybrid just for the sake of it.

Bugatti Galibier 16C Concept

A new four-door Bugatti Concept – the Bugatti Galabier – will show at Frankfurt.

Citroen Nouveau C3

Citroen has teased an image on Facebook of the Citroen Nouveau C3 Concept. What is it? A super-eco C3 based on the C-Cactus Concept? Or a hot C3? We’ll see at Frankfurt.

We had details of Citroen’s new super mini back in June, but we get to see the car for real at Frankfurt

Citroen DS3

The DS3 is the first of the up-market Citroens to wear the DS badge. Based on the new C3 it is designed to take on cars like the MINI

Citroen Revolte

A new Citroen Concept – the Citroen Revolte – which may be the rekindling of the 2CV moniker will show at Frankfurt.

Ferrari 458 Italia

Ferrari’s replacement for the F430, and currently our most viewed video. Much anticipated – will it look as good in the flesh?

Fiat Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari

Fiat has developed a 180bhp+ Fiat 500 as the Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari which will be built in limited numbers and show at Frankfurt 2009

Ford C-Max

The all new version of Ford’s C-Max will be making an appearence, despite not going on sale until late in 2010

Ford Grand C-Max

The C-Max’ big brother – the seven seat Grand C-Max with seven seats and sliding doors – will join it five-seat sibling.

Hyundai ix35

This is a greatly promising update of the Hyundai Tucson, designed to take on the Ford Kuga. And it will make a pretty decent fist of it if first impressions are anything to go by.

Hyundai Santa Fe 2010

Hyundai has given the Santa Fe a small facelift for 2010, but has also introduced a couple of new engines.

Jaguar XJ

We’ve seen it in the UK at Salon Prive, but this time the Europeans get their first chance to make a judgement on Jaguar’s brilliant new XJ.

Jaguar XF Estate

This is a bit of a long-shot. We’re sure Jaguar are planning an XF Estate – and a Coupe – but when we asked Jaguar they refused to comment. We’ll see.

Kia Ceed facelift

The Kia Cee’d has had a nose job and some tweaks to take it forward and we’ll get the first look at Frankfurt

Kia Sorento

Kia has confirmed that the new Kia Sorento SUV, with improved aerodynamics and a longer wheelbase, will début at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Kia Venga

Kia are to launch the Kia Venga at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. A mini MPV with the space of a Focus in the footprint of a Fiesta. Apparently.

Lamborghini Reventon Roadster

Lexus Premium Compact Concept – The Lexus LF-Ch

Updated 1/9 as Lexus has revealed that the Compact Concept will be called the Lexus LF-Ch. This is a Lexus designed to take on the BMW 1 Series and the Audi A3. It will offer a full hybrid and probably be front wheel drive.

Maserati GranCabrio

Maserati has finally got round to completing the convertible version of the GranTurismo S, and it will make its first public appearance at Frankfurt.

Mazda CX-7 facelift

Mazda are bringing the new Mazda CX-7 to Frankfurt, featuring a new 2.2 litre turbo-diesel and Mazda’s Selective Catalytic Reduction System to reduce NOx emissions.

Mazda MX-5 Superlight

Mazda has created a stripped-down version of the MX-5 – The Mazda MX-5 Superlight – to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

Mercedes E-class Estate

The new Mercedes E Class Estate – that was rumoured to be delayed – will launch at Frankfurt.

Mercedes Vision S500 Hybrid

It looks like Mercedes are bringing an S500 plug-in Hybrid offering 88mpg to show at Frankfurt

Mercedes SLS AMG

Mercedes in-house replacement for the SLR will be showing for the first time in production-ready guise.

Mercedes S250 BlueEfficiency

It llooks as if Mercedes are about to deliver a four-pot, high-economy dieel S-Class in the guise of the S250 CDi

MINI Coupe Concept

The MINI Coupe concept will be at Frankfurt – a two-seater coupe style MINI

MINI Roadster / Speedster

The topless version of the MINI Coupe also looks likely to make an appearance.

Peugeot iOn EV

Peugeot are bringing the Mitsubishi i-MiEV based iOn EV to Frankfurt.

Peugeot RC Z

Peugeot RCZ – a 2 door, 2 seater coupe – will launch at Frankfurt with prices from under £20,000.

Peugeot RCZ HYbrid4 Concept

Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4

Peugeot has produced a Hybrid version of the new 3008, which looks set to go on sale in 2010.

Porsche 911 Sport Classic

Porsche have churned out a limited edition 911 – The Porsche 911 Sport Classic – and are bringing it to Frankfurt. Just 250 will be produced.

The new 911 Turbo for 2010. Increased performance, lower emissions and improved economy.

Porsche GT3 RS

The 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, with a new 3.8 litre and loud graphics. Débuts at Frankfurt

Renault are bringing four electric car concepts to Framkfurt, from a tiny one-person car to a full five seater

Reva – makers of the G-Wiz – are to bring two new electric cars to Frankfurt.

Rolls-Royce Ghost

We’ve now had everything from Rolls Royce on the Ghost thanks to the pre-physical launch details on 6th September. Just the car to see in the flesh.

Toyota Land Cruiser 2010

Toyota are bringing the revamped Land Crusier – with a single option 3.0 litre diesel for thge UK market – to Franfurt

Toyota Auris Hybrid HSD

The first application of Toyota’s HSD hybrid system in a mainstream car will be in the hybrid Auris – due to be built in the UK next year.

Toyota Prius Plug-in

Toyota has developed a plug-in version of the Prisu which will show at Frankfurt.

Vauxhall Astra

It seems like it’s already here, but we actually get the first public view of Vauxhall’s most important car.

Volvo C30

Volvo has facelifted the C30 and will show it at Frankfurt

Volvo C70

Volvo has given the 4-seat folding tin-top C70 a facelift for 2010, and will show the car at Frankfurt.
