Dougie Lampkin takes on the Goodwood Estate

It may still be four months away, but the pace of the PR for the Goodwood Festival of Speed has been turned up a notch this week.  We did a piece on the Goodwood Moving Motor Show which will precede the Festival of Speed this last weekend, but it makes sense to bring you up to date with what we currently know will be happening at the FoS.

The theme at this year’s Festival of Speed is ‘Viva Veloce! – The Passion for Speed’ focusing on Italy’s contribution to the motoring world, from Alfa Romeo to the Mille Miglia. Part of the theme will be the centenary celebrations of Alfa Romeo and a huge sculpture in front of the house to mark the anniversary.

From the modern Motor Sport world comes six of this year’s F1 teams and a number of drivers including current F1 champion Jenson Button. The world of NASCAR sees  Michael Waltrip at the FoS and an impressive line-up of  racers, including the wild Toyota Tundra Craftsman Truck.

Two wheels play a big part at Goodwood too, and biking legend Agostini and FoS  first-timer Kevin Schwantz are just two of the many leading names due to take to the Goodwood Hill on two wheels in July.  Twelve-time World Trials Champion Dougie Lampkin will also be making a welcome return to the Festival, running amok throughout the event.

Dougie Lampkin did a trailer video for Goodwood two years ago, and makes a return to the Festival of Speed this year. In 2008 there was a video done of Dougie riding through Goodwood house and this year the FoS has put together video of Dougie round the Goodwood Estate on the hunt for Messrs Button and Hamilton. You can see the video at the end.

Anniversaries being celebrated at Goodwood this year include Alfa’s 100th, F1′s 60th, 60 Years of Carrera Panamericana, 50 Years of Forest Stages on the RAC Rally and 50 Years of the Bathurst ‘Great Race’. There will also be a Cars, Stars and Guitars display with cars owned by guitar legends like Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck on display along with each guitarist’s signature guitar. The hope is that the likes of Clapton and Beck will strike up a tune for the assembled throng. We can but hope.

There’ll be more on the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the coming months, but this is enough to be going on with or it’ll start to sound more like an unpaid promo than a news report.
