Halfway to glory: Fiat Panda midway through African run

Mon, 04 Feb 2013

On Feb. 1, British rally drivers Philip Young and Paul Brace set out to make the trek from Cape Town, South Africa to London in 10 days -- in a tiny Fiat Panda city car.

They’re now halfway through their journey and well on their way to breaking the standing 14-day record for the 10,300-mile run.

Incredibly, the team’s only real setback so far has been bureaucratic: A bit of missing paperwork at the Tanzania border triggered four hours of backtracking.

Still, with roughly eight days left, the team appears to be in good shape time-wise. We hope they’re in good shape physically and mentally as well, as they’re about to start the demanding cross-desert phase of their adventure.

Visit the team’s website for more news and pictures, as well as a map updated every 30 minutes with the crew’s progress.
