Hamann BMW M5 tuning package announced

Wed, 18 Apr 2012

German tuner Hamann will upgrade and modify Land Rovers, McLarens, Mercedes-Benzes and more, but its real expertise is in BMWs. The company has just announced an upgrade package for the new generation of BMW M5 sedans.

Hamann's body kit adds 25 millimeters on the rocker panels and the rear diffuser, while the front lip is extended by 30 millimeters. A new front apron is added to reduce lift at speed, but it also features LED daytime running lights. A new rear spoiler and roof spoiler provide even more downforce.

Hamann also offers forged wheels for the M5. The ultralight Unique Forged II wheels measure 21 inches and are wrapped in Continental Sport Contact 5P tires. The other wheel choice is the three-piece Edition Race model. These are anthracite anodized with titanium bolts and mirror-finish flanges. Both sets will reduce unsprung weight compared with the stock BMW wheels.

Inside, Hamann has completely redesigned the interior. Upgraded leather replaces the factory hides and aluminum pedals are attached in the footwells. Piano leather, Alcantara or leather options are available for the interior surfaces. If that's not enough, the company will personalize the floor mats with your name or any other inspirational words. We recommend “don't lift” in all caps.

Soon, the company will offer a performance tuning package for the M5. The program is in the development stages but it will include a high-performance muffler and a new engine-management system. This will result in a 157-hp bump and an increase of 162 lb-ft of torque. The total output would then land at 709 hp and a whopping 663 lb-ft of torque.
