Hennessey shows off breakneck speed of Venom GT

Wed, 14 Sep 2011

The boys at Hennessey Performance in Houston have been showing off their Venom GT supercar for almost a year now. We know it is fast. But in case we weren't convinced, they sent us this video of the speedometer going from 70 mph to 215 mph in about 10 seconds, complete with sound.

The Venom GT rides on a Lotus Exige chassis that's been stretched to accommodate the V8 from the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. Hennessey adds two turbos to the engine and claims it now makes 1,200 hp and 1,155 lb-ft of torque. Weighing in at 2,685 pounds, the Venom GT uses six-piston calipers in front and four in the rear to stop. The rotors are carbon ceramic.

Hennessey plans to build only 10 copies of the car per year, so exclusivity comes standard. We'll see the car at the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association show in Las Vegas in November. Expect more news to come then.
