Home of NAIAS to be updated

The spiritual home of the NAIAS is set to be rejuvenated. The Cobo center in Detroit, home of the North American International Auto Show for over 24 years, is part of a $221 million project that will see it extended and renovated extensively.

The Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority have announced that many of the improvements to the Cobo center will be ready for the 2012 NAIAS, although the project is unlikely to be finished until 2014.

The Cobo Authority have recently unveiled an impressive and lengthy walk through of the new facilities that the center is set to receive. Taking in dramatic facility enhancements and architectural changes, the Cobo's new specification will include a new three-story atrium, new meeting rooms and ballrooms that will open up to stunning views of the Detroit River.

NAIAS 2012 Chairman Bill Perkins said that "We're building on a strong, positive momentum from NAIAS 2011, and we're encouraged by what we're hearing from automakers. The industry is rebounding, and the news about the Cobo improvements comes at a critical time."
