Honda readies FCEV Concept for LA Auto Show

Mon, 11 Nov 2013

Honda revealed a sketch of its fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV) Concept on Nov. 11 ahead of the upcoming LA Auto Show. Honda says the concept points to a potential styling direction for the production version of the high-tech vehicle, which is slated to launch in 2015.

"The Honda FCEV Concept demonstrates the company's vision for the future of personal mobility and our commitment to developing advanced alternative fuel vehicles," said Mike Accavitti, senior vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "As we work toward the introduction of our next-generation fuel-cell vehicle in 2015, our long-term experience with fuel-cell technologies will help us pave a way towards a zero-emissions future."

PR speak aside, Honda is one of the leaders in alternative tech. The Insight broke electric ground, pun intended, in 1999. Currently, the company has eight alternative offerings for sale.

Though only a sketch, we can see what looks like the shape of an Audi R8 or Peugeot Onyx, along with a nose like the VW XL1. But, like all concepts, they start out looking wild and get progressively more subdued as production approaches. There’s also a bit of abstractness that doesn’t really hint at anything.

You might be thinking this should fall under our #WarOnTeasers tag, but since it shows most of the concept, and it’s sportier than the new family sedan headlight or crossover bumper guard, we made an exception.
