Hydrogen Car Highway for London

London to develop a Hydrogen Highway

The plan is fairly small scale, but it’s a start. As part of the scheme Boris is assembling a small fleet of 150 cars, 20 black cabs and 5 buses all running on Hydrogen. In typical Boris style he said he wants Britain to become a ‘World leader in Fuel Cell Technology’ with the aim of having one in three cars in the UK running on hydrogen fuel cells in twenty years.

The initial plan is for half a dozen hydrogen refuelling centres around London. Not massive we admit, but it’s a definite move in the right direction. But with London the centre of world attention in the run-up to the Olympics in 2012 it should focus some real attention on Hydrogen fuel cell transport.

Not surprisingly, Boris had something to say:

“Harnessing low-carbon technology is key to solving the pressing issues of energy security, cutting climate change emissions and improving air quality. With electric vehicles gearing up to become a mainstream choice in a few years’ time, we are creating the right conditions for them to flourish.”

And we’re all for it. Electric cars powered by Hydrogen fuel cells.

The future.
