The Infiniti Emerg-E will debut at Geneva 2012

The Infiniti Emerg-E – an electric sports car with a range extender engine – will debut as a concept at the Geneva Motor Show.

Infiniti has been teasing the new range extender concept sport car they are taking to Geneva for the last month or so, with the usual teaser photos and dearth of real detail. But now we know a bit more, but at least we now know what it’s called – the Infiniti Emerg-E.

What we do know is that the Emerg-e is a rear wheel drive, two-seater sports car that looks like it will offer decent performance. What we don’t yet know is how big the electric motor is, how many laptop batteries Infiniti are bolting in, or the size of the range extender engine.

We’re assuming the range-extender will be modest in size – perhaps a 1.2 litre 4-pot – with the Emerg-E designed to be an electric mid-engined sports car with the ability to continue after its electric charge has depleted.

Although the Emerg-E is billed as a concept, it seems clear that Infiniti are intending building a mid-engined, range extender sports car of some description. We also think Infiniti are planning on using the range-extender powerplant from the Emerg-E in a current road car, which we guess may be the M saloon.
