Is this the Lamborghini URUS?

Is this Aventador with Veyron wheels the Lamborghini Urus in the making?

What is the Lamborghini Urus, you may ask?

Regular readers will know that back at the time when we were hearing that the replacement for the Murcielago would probably be called the Jota (yes, we got the name wrong but all the other details were right) a contact at Lamborghini told us they were working on a super Aventador (as it is now called) aimed at taking out the new Enzo when that arrives (the Ferrari F70). And the name attached to the Super-Lambo by our contact was Lamborghini Urus.

Petrolheads may also remember that Urus was the name touted for Lamborghini’s answer to the Rapide before Lamborghini’s four-door concept turned up as the Estoque. So the Urus badge for a Super-Lambo made sense. But for the last eighteen months we’ve had no way to move forward with the Urus story – until now.

Autoblog on Holland has grabbed a shot of an Aventador at Sant’Agatha Bolognese which appears to be sporting a set of Veyron wheels and tyres. Which, despite Bugatti and Lamborghini being VW owned, is a bit odd. So odd that they conclude Lamborghini are working on a super-Aventador.

We’d like to think the Urus is still very much in play. Our original source isn’t forthcoming on more detail, but stands by his original information.

That original information said the Urus would get a modified Aventador chassis with every component re-worked to make it as light and dynamic as possible, a full carbon-fibre body and active aerodynamics. Power will come from the Aventador’s V12 suitably tweaked and modified to give over 800bhp and a sub 3 second 0-60mph.

And we’re really hoping this snatched photo proves our Exclusive 2009 story on the Lamborghini Urus was bang on the money.
