Jaguar Land Rover Virtual Showroom

Wed, 24 Oct 2012

Jaguar Land Rover has developed a Virtual Showroom allowing customers to engage and interact with almost life-size cars.

If you were at the debut of the 2013 Range Rover and new Jaguar F-Type in Paris last month you may well have seen Jaguar Land Rover’s new Virtual Showroom on display,  and it looks like JLR have big plans for their new high-tech way of exploring new cars.

JLR’s Virtual Experience allows customers to interact with an almost life-size digital wall image of their chosen car, not just looking but interacting too.

Users can look at both the interior and exterior of the car, open doors and even start the car up. Using a touchpad screen, users can choose the model, equipment and features they want which is rendered in real time at 5 million polygons (the 3D equivalent of pixels), and all aspects can be explored using intuitive gestures.

Just as Audi is doing with its digital showrooms, the new system will allow Jaguar to open small digital showrooms in city centres, turn up at events and showcase their whole range in huge detail – or even pitch up on a street and beam the virtual information wall on to the side of a building.

Jaguar say this system is the most sophisticated yet produced for the motor industry and will allow JLR to showcase their products in places previously unimaginable. They’re even working on an App to allow customers to design and save their car at home and pitch up at a virtual wall to explore it further.

Nathan Summers, Jaguar Land Rover Business Relationship Director, said:

Jaguar Land Rover offers customers an exceptional breadth of choice to tailor their vehicle. Virtual Experience presents customers with the opportunity to experience their personally designed vehicle in a very real environment.

Virtual Experience is an innovation and shows where we see the future of our technology development. We are putting the customer in control as well as seeking new ways to modernise and customise their experience when choosing their new Jaguar or Land Rover.

Now all they need is a virtual demonstrator and their dealers can start to panic.
