The Jaguar XKR175 - to celebrate 75 years of Jaguar

If you read the report we recently did about Jaguar celebrating its 75th anniversary by launching the Limited Edition Jaguar XKR75 in to Europe, you could be forgiven for thinking that either the headline is a mistake or Jaguar has had a quick recalculate and realised they’d actually been in business for a century more than they thought.

But if you reached that perfectly reasonable conclusion, you’d be wrong. In the UK and Europe Jaguar decide that the car to celebrate 75 years should be called the 75 and be produced in that number – so 75 are being made.

For some reason best known to our Colonial cousins, they seem to have failed to work out that the car is a celebration of an anniversary. They must think it’s a celebration of the number of cars built. Which is the only possible explanation for calling the North American version of the celebration XKR – which launches at Pebble Beach this week – the Jaguar XKR175.

But actually, it doesn’t even stop there. It would seem that in addition to the 175 Jaguar XKR175s Jaguar USA are planning on selling, they’re going to make an extra 15 cars to sell in Canada.

But they’re not calling it the XKR15 in Canada, or even the XKR190. They’re sticking with the XKR175. So, really, we’re stuck as to the logic. Still, the news is that our former Dominions in North America are getting a limited edition XKR.

The Jaguar XKR175 gets its limiter raised so it’ll reach 174mph (but no actual increase in power), new front air dam and side sills and a diffuser and spoiler out back. The XKR175 also enjoys a set of 20″ Kasuga alloys, red calipers and an Ultimate Black paint job. Cost is $104,400.

Oh, and look out for the Limited Edition Jaguar XJ143 next year in the States. They’re producing 158 cars, all with a special plaque saying ’1968-2011 – 143 Years of Jaguar XJ’.
