James Bond Aston Martin DB5 sells for £2.9m

Thu, 28 Oct 2010

The famous James Bond Aston Martin DB5 sold last night at a London auction for nearly £3 million.

American businessman Harry Yeaggy paid £2,912,000 ($4,608,500) for the 1964 DB5 driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger and Thunderball.

The 007 DB5 is best known for Q's gadgets, including revolving number plates, rocket launchers and an ejector seat.

The lucky man waking up this morning with 007's keys is American businessman Harry Yeaggy. He bought it from Jerry Lee, an American broadcaster, who bought it from Aston Martin Lagonda in 1969 for $12,000.

'This is a car that I’ve always wanted, after all it is the most famous car in the world,' said Mr Yeaggy. 'My plan is to display it in my private car museum in Ohio just as it is.'

The Bond Aston was sold by RM Auctions and Sothebys at an auction in London.

'RM has just established the price of fame,' said Rob Myers, chairman and founder of RM Auctions. 'We had a fabulous time during the promotion of the sale of 007’s DB5 and we’re really pleased to have been able to assist with finding it a great new home.'
