Kia going rear drive

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

Kia told its dealers it will launch a new full-size rear-wheel-drive flagship sedan in the U.S., and it is expected to be in showrooms here early next year.

Kia's first-ever U.S. RWD production sedan will be called the K900 and is the same vehicle sold as the K9 in South Korea and as the Quoris in other overseas markets. It shares its platform with the Hyundai Equus. Pricing is expected to range from $50,000 to $70,000, and Kia hopes to sell 5,000 a year. Word is V6s and V8s will be available, ranging from 290 hp to 420 hp. The eight-speed automatic transmission used in overseas models is also expected for the K900. Also look for adaptive LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, a 17-speaker premium audio system and head-up display. At first, Kia will sell the K900 in a limited number of dealerships along the West Coast, in New England and in Florida.
