Land Rover Defender XTech: Take 2 for 2012

Mon, 09 Jul 2012

Apparently, we herald the arrival of the Land Rover Defender XTech special edition today – just 18 months after the last Defender XTech Special Edition.

Don’t misunderstand, we love the Land Rover Defender. But it’s just 18 months since the last Land Rover Defender XTech arrived as an ‘Urban Warrior’ Defender with Black or Silver paintwork and 16″ Saw Tooth Alloys.

Still, maybe Land Rover are still recovering from having to come up with a new name for the first time in a generation to bolt on the Evoque and they just couldn’t face finding a new name for a limited edition Defender. Or a new location for the photos (or Photoshop background).

So for the Defender XTech in 2012 you get a choice of Orkney Grey or Nara Bronze paint, black roof and wheel arches and a set of black chequer plates on the sills and bumpers. Much the same as last year’s XTech.

A set of 16″ alloys, Santorini Black surrounds for the headlights, painted grill to match the body colour, a ‘bespoke’ logo at the back and black lettering for the LAND ROVER lettering on the bonnet complete the exterior makeover. Much the same as last year’s XTech.

Inside it’s just a titivate with part leather in black with contrast stitching, logos embossed on the front seats, custom mats and a centre panel in the body colour.

Under the bonnet the Land Rover Defender XTech gets the 2.2 litre diesel and six-speed manual ‘box of the regular Defender and costs from £27,995, with a choice of the 90 Hard Top or 110 Utility Wagon styles.

Which is £3k more than last year’s Defender XTech, so perhaps you’d better get one now. Because next year’s Defender XTech will probably be £31k. But then again, it might come in a different colour which will make it worth it.
