Lexus RX 450h SE-I Lifestyle

Now don’t get too excited if you’re a Lexus fan. The Lexus RX 450h SE-I Lifestyle is not a major new model, just a few bits from the parts bin added to the regular Lexus RX 450h to produce an RX450h for the ‘outdoor’ lifestyle .

But actually, it’s a clever bit of marketing from the boys (and girls) at Lexus. As we discovered when we recently reviewed the Lexus RX 450h, there is more to commend the Lexus SUV than we’d previously thought. Not enough on a short term (one week) play to make us consider it a great buy, but we did start to understand why people buy it.

We understood the superb fit and finish and the feeling that the RX450h was pretty much bullet proof is a turn-on. It is a proper lifestyle statement of a car and one that we started to ‘get’ just a little bit. Not that we thought it without fault – far from it – but we started to see the point.

We also started to understand the mindset of the typical buyer. A buyer more interested in the things that the RX offered a certain sort of lifestyle than how it drives – although even that was not without its pluses. Trips to Waitrose, perhaps. A game or three of squash or golf. Indulgent weekends away. A car for the active empty-nester with a comfortable income, perhaps.

And for a demographic like that the new Lexus RX 450h SE-I Lifestyle will have appeal. It adds a few exterior titivations – roof rails, front and rear underbody guards and a rear bumper protector. Inside it throws in a boot liner for muddy wellies or muddy dogs and a cool box that can do warming as well as cooling.

All these bits and bobs would set you back around £1,500 if you specced your new RX 450h up from the option list. But plump instead for the RX 450h SE-I Lifestyle and it’ll cost you just £500 more. And make your RX450h perfectly equipped for picnicking and dogs.

Who could want for more?
