All new pictures of the Lotus Evora - to be launched in the UK in June

It does seem to have taken for ever to get the Lotus Evora in to showrooms – it’s been coming for almost a year now. We did finally get Lotus Evora specifications and UK prices back in March, but even though the launch has once again been put back (from May until June) the release of these photos is clear evidence that finally the Lotus Evora is about ready.

The first four-seater Lotus in an age (although it’s really a 2+2, and then only if you pay extra for the rear seats), the Evora has a mid-engined 3.5 litre V6 Toyota lump, fettled and sorted by Lotus to produce 276bhp. Which isn’t enormous, but the Evora is a light car and that output is enough to get the Evora to 60 mph in under 5 seconds, and on to a top speed of 160mph. Despite this oomph, the Evora will manage 32mpg (but not at the same time as using the oomph), and creditable emissions of 205g/km.

The first 450 cars are going to be a special ‘Launch Edition Evora’, with a big spec including reversing camera, bi-xenons and a special set of alloy wheels. The Launch Edition comes in a choice of Ardent Red or British Racing Green (although if you want to pay extra you can have pretty much what you want).

But this is just the start of the Evora story. Already confirmed, probably for 2011, is a supercharged version of the Evora and a convertible. If Lotus manage to make this car as successful as the Elise/Exige etc models they have produced in the last 10 years, it will be onwards and upwards for the team from Hethel.
