MINI John Cooper Works Paceman: The hot MINI Countryman Coupe arrives

Thu, 13 Dec 2012

The new MINI Paceman has been given a range-topping model in the guise of the 140mph MINI John Cooper Works Paceman. Debuts at Detroit 2013.

The Paceman JCW gets a convincing setup, with the same 1.6 litre 216bhp 1.6 litre as the Countryman JCW which delivers 207lb/ft of torque – and an extra 14lb/ft from an overboost – enough to send the Paceman JCW to 62mph in 6.9 seconds and on to 140mph (139mph in the auto, not that it matters as performance is the same otherwise).

The Paceman JCW sits 10mm lower than the regular Paceman with bigger anti-roll bars, tweaked springs and dampers, DSC with DTC, beefed-up brakes and a Sport button that lets you tweak the responses, exhaust note and the amount of power steering assistance.

The Paceman JCW comes with MINI’s All4 4WD which sends up to half the power to the rear wheels under normal driving, but can channel all the power to either axle depending on conditions. Despite the decent levels of power and the 4WD, official economy is 38.2mpg for the manual and 35.8mpg for the auto.

Cosmetically, the Paceman JCW gets a butch bodykit with aggressive front and rear bumpers, side skirts, JCW logos and 18″ alloys with the interior getting more JCW logos, dar contrast dials, individual sports seats (in the back too), red contrast stitching, Piano Black trim and you can opt for Chili Red trim as an option.

The MINI Paceman John Cooper Works will debut next month in Detroit before arriving in the UK in spring 2013 at a smidge under £30k.
