Maserati GranCabrio Sport arrives in the UK

Actually, the Maserati GranCabrio Sport arrived a few months back at the Geneva Motor Show, but it’s now washed up on our shores – just too late to enjoy the miserable summer with the rest of us by the time the first UK customer cars actually arrive in October.

The main news, apart from the GranCabrio actually being for sale in the UK, is that the price is perhaps not quite as high as we’d expected.

When Maserati revealed the GranCabrio Sport at Geneva we did speculate it would end up being north of £100k. Well, it is, but only just. The Maserati GranCabrio will actually cost you £102,615.

For £102k you get a harder-edged GranCabrio with more power (a whole 10bhp) and a more sporty suspension setup. Interestingly, the increase in power – although modest – has managed to improve fuel consumption in the process. Although if you’re spending over £100k on a drop-top the extra 1mpg isn’t going to affect your life much.

But the extra horses do improve performance a bit too, with 0-62mph taking 5.2 seconds and the extra power pushing the GranCabrio Sport on to 177mph. Not stunning figures, but probably more than enough for your back seat passengers when the roof’s down.

On the cosmetic front the GranCabrio Sport gets a black grill with a red-accented Trident, black-glass headlights, more butch skirts, black exhaust tips and a good-looking set of 20″ Astro-design alloys. You can also opt for a new colour - Rosso Trionfale – which is ‘inspired’ by Maserati’s 1950s racing colour.

Inside the GranCabrio Sport gets a similar set of sporty tweaks with M-Design seats with some new colour options - Bianco Pregiato and Grigio Chrono – longer flappy-paddles and drilled aluminium pedals.

And it all works. The ‘Sport’ makeover for the GranCabrio has been subtly done by Maserati and the makeover makes what was already a very desirable car in the GranCabrio even more appealing in the GranCabrio Sport. But it would have been nice if Maserati could have rustled up UK photos for the UK launch of the RHD GranCabrio, rather than a LHD car with Italian plates.

But it looks so good we’ve still published the full photo gallery.
