Mazda3 Tamura launched

The limited edition Mazda3 Tamura hits UK showrooms in February

Good car, the Mazda3, and if you’re looking for a Mazda3 with extra spec you could do a lot worse than the newly announced Mazda3 Tamura.

Mazda already has Tamura versions of the Mazda2 and Mazda6 on offer which were launched last year, and now it’s the turn of the Mazda3 to get the Tamura treatment.

The Tamura is based on the TS but gets a sporty styling kit including sports front grille, side skirts and sports bumpers, a set of 17″ alloys, front fogs, metallic paint and the required badges.

The Tamura might look sportier but it doesn’t exactly fly. Its 1.6 litre petrol – with just a smidge over 100 horses – takes a somewhat un-sporty 12.2 seconds to despatch the 0-60mph sprint. It averages out at 44.8mpg and emits 149g/km CO2.

It may be more show than go, but the Mazda3 Tamura does get a reasonable amount of kit. Standard stuff includes remote locking, dual-zone climate,  leather steering wheel with audio controls, an MP3 compatible audio, folding mirrors and electric front and rear windows. Throw in some of the required electric nannies like DSC and TCS and Mazda’s ESS – which shoves on the hazards if the ABS gets activated – and you have a pretty complete spec.

The Tamura gets a choice of four paint jobs – Aluminium Silver Metallic, Black Mica, Velocity Red Mica and the unique-to-Tamura Gunmetal Blue Mica. Priced at £14,995.

If looking the part and getting a decent spec is of more interest than the performance then the Mazda3 Tamura is far from a bad buy. And if you want to know how good the Mazda3 is, have a look at our Mazda3 Review.
