McLaren 12C Spider UK debut this weekend

Fri, 07 Sep 2012

The McLaren 12C Spider – the roadster version of the MP4-12C – gets its UK debut this weekend at the Octane Jubilee Tour of Elegance at Windsor Castle.

McLaren’s thoughts may be focused on the debut of the new F1 (P12) at Paris in a few week’s time, but that doesn’t mean the more mainstream MP4-12C and its convertible sibling, the 12C Spider, are pushed aside.

After revealing the 12C Spider in July – and taking it off to Pebble Beach in August – it’s now time for the UK to get its first public view of the new convertible McLaren.

McLaren are taking the 12C Spider to the Octane Jubilee Tour of Elegance at Windsor Castle this weekend – a celebration of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with cars from every year of her reign – all decked out in a fetching coat of Volcano Yellow.

The 12C Spider doesn’t just get striking yellow paint, it also gets a new front bumper with race-derived styling from McLaren Special Operations, the same McLaren outfit that built the McLaren X-1 and will part wealthy customers of large chunks of cash for personalising their new McLaren.

McLaren has roped in Henry Cavill – the latest Superman – to drive the 12c Spider and they’re pushing the ‘Make Britain GREAT’ campaign designed to reaffirm Britain’s international reputation.

Should be an interesting weekend if you’re in Berkshire this weekend, but the next big McLaren news will be the new F1 at Paris – which may just eclipse the 12C Spider.
