Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster Video - better looking than the Gullwing?

With all the stories and photos we’ve run on the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster, it feels like it’s been here for ages. But it hasn’t. In fact, we think, this is the first video we’ve seen of the SLS Roadster – disguised or otherwise.

Which shouldn’t really be a surprise, especially as the first official photos of the SLS Roadster were only sent to us by Mercedes on Sunday morning –  just two days ago.

Yes, Mercedes did send us a set of photos at the very start of May of the SLS Roadster, but they were of a disguised car – although you’d be hard pushed to know; it wasn’t exactly covered in the usual black and white swirly camouflage wrap.

But with the SLS Roadster properly out in the open we’re rapidly coming to the conclusion that the Roadster is better looking than the Gullwing. And this video has convinced us.

Despite being in a 1970s colour scheme – brown and cream – the SLS Raodster looks stunning on the move. The rather ungainly – although faithfully reproduced - gullwing doors on the SLS Coupe are evocative, but side by side with the Roadster the Gullwing looks…blobby.

Now we’re not saying for a minute that the combination of 6.3 litres of V8 with a 0-60mph of under 4 seconds isn’t hugely appealing in the SLS Coupe, because it is.

We’re simply saying that the SLS Roadster looks like a very 21st century Mercedes Roadster, whereas the SLS Gullwing is perhaps trying too hard to pay homage (or should that be Hommage) to the iconic Gullwing.

Or maybe it’s just us.
