Mercedes SLS AMG leaked ahead of Frankfurt

The first official images of the Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing have leaked out ahead of Frankfurt

We’ve been teased and tormented by the long, drawn-out tease for the Mercedes SLS AMG - the in-house replacement for the mighty Mercedes McLaren SLR. We’ve had what I thing is a first – an SLS Official Spy Video – and endless bits and pieces on the Gullwing.

But now – ahead of the official launch of the SLS next week at Frankfurt – the damn has burts and the first official images have leaked out Mercedes.

This is the first chance to get a proper look at the new SLS AMG. Yes, we had a picture od the SLS a while back that was a scan from a car magazine due for publication after the launch. But they looked a little oddly proportioned. The SLS looks much better in these pictures.

The SLS AMG gets a front-mounted 6.2 litre V8 (yes, the same one they shove in every performance AMG) mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch ‘box. The setup delivers 563bhp and 480lb/ft of torque, enough to propel the SLS AMG to 60mph in around 3.6 seconds. But we know of at least one owner-to-be who will be very disappointed with those figures. He’d put his deposit down early on hoping for at least 650bhp.

The Mercedes SLS AMG will go in to production late in 2010, but not be on sale until 2011. First indications of price are around €175k , which translates in to about £150,000.

I’m sure we’ll have a chunk more detail once Mercedes wakes up to the leak and releases official info.
