Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X FQ-400 released

Wed, 27 May 2009

Mitsubishi has released the fastest Evo in the UK market - the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X FQ-400

And now it’s getting really serious. The 2.0 litre, turbocharged MIVEC engine in the FQ-400 will propel this four-door saloon to 60mph in around 3.7 seconds. That’s on a par with a Nisan GT-R, a Ferrari F430 and significantly quicker than an Aston Martin DBS. And you can shove the kids, and the luggage, in the back.

The FQ400 produces 403bhp and delivers 377lb/ft of torque. All this extra shove is achieved by adding a new turbo with low friction bearings, high-flow injectors and an uprated thrust bearing. To keep the turbo cool, Mitsubishi has fitted an upgraded intercooler, and exhaust gases now leave via 3″ stainless steel, high flow pipes to a big, centrally mounted tail-pipe that sits in the restyled back bumper, complete with carbon fibre diffuser.

The FQ-400 gets S-AWC (Super all wheel control) to channel power to whichever wheel can best use it, lower suspension and a wider track. To help this monster stop, Mitsubishi has upgraded the brakes, using aerospace grade aluminium alloy and floating sealed discs with high performance pads.

Kit-wise you get a set of 18″ alloys, with Toyo tyres, DVD SatNav, Bluetooth, 30gb hard drive, auto lights and wipers, privacy glass and some carbon fibre trim on the inside.

This is the ultimate 4-door supercar for the Playstation Generation. Sales in the UK start in June at £49,999. Which if you equate that to performance per pound is something of a bargain.
