New BMW M6 Convertible Spied. Heading for Detroit 2012?
Wed, 14 Dec 2011New BMW M6 Convertible Spied
The new BMW M6 Convertible has been spied in the US at a BMW compound. Is it heading for a debut at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show.
The 2011 BMW 6 Series Convertible debuted almost exactly a year ago after BMW turned car launch convention on its head by revealing the convertible version of the new 6 Series ahead of the coupe. And are they about to do the same with the new M6 Convertible?
Auto Spies have grabbed a photo (above) of what appears to be the new M6 Convertible in a BMW compound at the Bayonne Military Ocean Terminal in New Jersey. And it certainly appears to be the M6 convertible, rather than a regular 6-Series with extra bits.
There appear to be bigger brakes – with blue calipers – quad tail pipes and a more aggressive body kit with extra ventilation. Yes, it could be a titivated regular 6-Series, but as it was lurking in a BMW compound it seems likely to be the real deal.
We’re expecting BMW to give the M6 Convertible – and the M6 Coupe when that arrives – even more power than the M5 in an effort to make it more of a halo model than the last M6. That will mean something around 600bhp from its 4.4 litre twin turbo V8. That should mean performance that could actually break the 4 second barrier to 60mph.
No doubt we’ll hear more on the new M6 Convertible soon if it is to arrive at Detroit 2012.
