Enthusiasts have yearned for the return of the Lancia Stratos. There was glimmer of light for Stratos lovers in 2005 when the Fenomenon Stratos Concept showed up, but nothing much since. Until the last few weeks.

A week or so back the first photos of what was being dubbed ‘The New Lancia Stratos’ started doing the rounds on the Interweb. The rumour was that the Stratos was going to be revived for the 21st century. But it really didn’t add up to us. Yes, there was the photo you see at the top (taken at a Fiat testing ground) but it looked rather more like a pastiche of the original than a 21st century re-creation. So we decided to wait until we had something more concrete before jumping to conclusions.

And now it seems that the ‘New Stratos’ is in fact a one-off creation by Pininfarina for a client. Which makes far more sense. There are still rumours flying around about the running gear for this ‘New Stratos’. with the money on it being a shortened F430 chassis with the Ferrari’s running gear. Which would make for a very interesting car.

But it’s not the Stratos revived.
