New Peugeot 108 revealed ahead of Geneva debut

The new Peugeot 108 (pictured) revealed ahead of a Geneva debut

The new Peugeot 108, revealed this morning ahead of a Geneva Motor Show debut, is Peugeot’s new take on the city car and, certainly at first look, it seems a good effort. We always liked the Peugeot 107 and its ability to look better than its Citroen and Toyota siblings, be nippy and frugal around town and small enough to park almost anywhere.

And although the new Peugeot 108 looks more grown-up, it does seem to promise what the 107 delivered but in a more sophisticated package.

At 3.47m, long and 1.6m wide the 108 is just a touch longer than the 107, with a choice of three or five doors and as a tin top or TOP! convertible, it looks like Peugeot are ticking all the buyers’ boxes of choice.

The styling is much more modern Peugeot, with a more premium feel, a front end that looks like a smaller 308 and a glass skin over the tailgate as a nod to the 107′s styling with a wheel at each corner thanks to minimal overhangs,

Peugeot say the interior of the 108 feels and looks like one from a much larger premium car (but we’ll have to take their word for it for now as they’ve not sent us any interior photos), with a speedo on the steering column with both speedometer and LCD screen, rev counter and gear shift indicator.

There’s also a 7″ infotainment screen, AirCon, push-button start and good integration for the screen with Android, Windows and Apple phones.

Peugeot are also hoping buyers will dig deep to personalise their 108 with eight body colour option – including the 108 exclusive Aïkinite and Purple Berry – with two-tone paint in Purple Berry and Zircon Grey or Diamond White and Aïkinite with Black, Grey or Purple Berry fabric roof for the 108 TOP! Convertible.

Available in Access, Active and Allure trim levels, the 108 comes with a trio of 1.0 litre 3-cylinder engines - 1.0-litre e-VTi 68bhp with 5,speed manual, 88g/km and stop-start, 1.0-litre VTi  68bhp 5-speed manual with 95g/km and 1.0-litre VTi 68bhp 5-speed with electronic ‘box and 97g/km – plus the 1.2 litre PureTech VTi with 82bhp and 99g/km.

The new Peugeot 108 will debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show and go on sale in the UK on 1st July 2014.

And it makes much more sense for zipping around town than an EV.
