New Peugeot 208 won’t spawn Estate or Convertible, but a 2008 SUV Crossover is planned.

There may be a new Peugeot 208 GTi (pictured) but no 208 CC or SW

Peugeot has revealed that there will be no CC (Convertible) or SW (estate) versions of the new 208, but a 2008 SUV/Crossover is expected.

The new Peugeot 208 has a weight of expectations resting on its new shoulders, with Peugeot finding sales harder to come by and hoping the new 208 may rekindle some of the sales fire the 205 had.

So you’d think it would make sense to fill every possible niche imaginable with the 208, including spinning off various iterations in the style of MINI. So we thought a Peugeot 208 CC was a certainty, as would be a 208 SW. But it appears not.

Automotive News (Europe) are reporting a Peugeot spokesman saying that they will not be building a 208 CC and that there will be no 208 SW (208 Estate) either. What Peugeot do appear to be planning is yet another SUV or Crossover (depending how you look at it) to fit in below the new 4008 which is expected to get the Peugeot 2008 moniker. And in many ways that makes sense.

Compact urban warrior vehicles are far more appealing to todays car buyers than an estate car, and a Peugeot 2008 would give PSA (we assume there will be a Citroen Version too) something to pitch in to the fray against cars like the Ford EcoSport and the Nissan Juke.

But hairdressers from Lands End to John O’Groats will mourn the passing of the little Peugeot CC.
