New Rolls Royce Wraith on the road (video)

The new Rolls Royce Wraith hits the road

The new Rolls Royce Wraith – revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March – is Rolls Royce’s answer to the sport credentials of Bentley, and it’s a convincing effort.

Essentially a Ghost Coupe, the Wraith’s styling is, perhaps, a little jarring with its almost dog humping back end, but from some angles it also looks remarkably elegant for a two door coupe that’s the size of a delivery truck.

But the key to the Wraith’s appeal – apart from the sumptuous fixtures and fittings – is its dynamism and power, with 624bhp on tap from its v12 (and an earth-turning 590lb/ft of torque too) enough to shift the Wraith to 60mph in a very un-Rolls Royce 4.4 seconds. Now we get the first chance to see the Wraith on the move in the hands of RR’s softly spoken Product Manager, Philip Harnett, who talks us through some of the Wraith’s highlights and background as he drives through countryside in the Wraith before heading in to town.

We learn the Wraith has been tested everywhere from death Valley to Sweden, by way of the Nurburgring, to ensure it has flawless abilities in all conditions and driving demands.

We hear about the Satellite Aided Transmission that can set itself up based on the GPS; knowing what’s coming up ahead - even when it’s out of sight – allows the Wraith to always be in the right gear for what is to come.

We see more of the technology the Wraith offers and wallow in the divine interior as Philip gently narrates his trip in the Wraith. Worth the watch.

The new Rolls Royce Wraith is now on sale and first customer cars should be arriving in the Autumn.
