New Toyota Avalon Tease?

Toyota are teasing a new saloon car ahead of next month’s New York Auto Show, which is probably the replacement for the Toyota Avalon.

The Toyota Avalon is a saloon car we don’t get in Europe, but it is Toyota’s top of the tree car in the States. Sadly, the current Avalon is not exactly the most exciting and dynamic car on the planet and has a similar buyer demographic to the one the Honda Civic had in the UK – you need your bus pass to qualify for ownership.

But it looks like Toyota’s quest to make their cars more dynamic and interesting is now creeping in to the Avalon, if the teaser picture at the top is anything to go by. Instead of a three-box beige-mobile Toyota has penned what looks like a four-door swoopy-coupe saloon, and if this is the new Avalon it’s a big departure.

It’s always possible that this tease isn’t for the new North American Avalon, but a completely new saloon car for the Toyota range. It has a bit of the GT 86 going on in its design and could even be a stretched version of the new ‘affordable’ sports car from Toyota with an extra set of doors.

Whichever it is – new Toyota Avalon or four-door GT 86 – it looks quite appealing. So appealing that even if it is the new Avalon we might actually want one.
