2012 Toyota Avensis - teased ahead of Frankfurt 2011

As Frankfurt draws close its Toyota’s turn to reveal their 2011 offerings at the show, which will include the 2012 facelift Toyota Avensis.

The new Avensis is the only Toyota at Frankfurt we haven’t already seen, and Toyota hasn’t done much more than send us the teaser photo you see at the top. But we do know Toyota re claiming the 2012 Avensis is the ‘Most expensive mid-life facelift’ they have ever undertaken.

Despite that it’s still a facelift and not a new Avensis. The nose gets an update with a fresh set of headlights and a new grill – bringing the Avensis in to line with Toyota’s latest offerings – and the back end gets new lights and bumper.

Inside Toyota say the new Avensis gets improvements in quality and there will strategic changes to the engine lineup and driving dynamics.

Also on show will be the Prius+, Toyota’s take on an eco-MPV. Expected to feature the same, less than inspiring, hybrid setup as the regular Prius, the Prius+ will get lithium-ion batteries for a bit of extra EV range.

Joining the Prius+ will be the production version of the plug-in Prius, which is said to have emissions as low as 49g/km under the daft official measurements. It will be joined by the latest, 3rd generation Prius, making Frankfurt the first time production versions of all three Prius have been on show together. Can Frankfurt deal with such a big green halo?

Completing the lineup for Toyota are Frankfurt will be the 3-door 2012 Toyota Yaris, on show for the first time. Oh, and we’d better not forget the 2012 HiLux pickup, making its European debut.

There you go, some proper, grown-up reporting.
