New Volkswagen Golf GTI spec revealed: Gets 217bhp or 227bhp

Wed, 27 Feb 2013

Volkswagen has revealed the new 2013 Golf GTI Specs ahead of a Geneva showing. Gets 217bhp or an extra 10bhp with the Performance Package.

As we already know, the new Golf GTI comes with a 2.0 litre TFSI engine good for 217bhp or, if you opt for the Performance Package, you can have an extra 10bhp – enough to cut the standard GTI’s 0-62mph (6.5s) by 0.1 seconds and add an ectra 3mph to the top speed (rises to 155mph).

Both GTI models get stop-start and have the same official economy numbers – 44.1mpg and 148g/km – and come with a six-speed manual ‘box as standard with the option of a 6-speed DSG ‘box which doesn’t affect performance or economy.

The distinctive bits for the GTI include red brake callipers, two chrome tail pipes, 18″ alloys, sports suspension, bigger sills, rear diffuser, smoked LED lights at the back, and bi-xenons with LED running lights. You also get the traditional tartan upholstery, red ambient lighting, sports steering wheel and stainless steel pedals to make the interior of the new GTI a bit sporty too.

Opting for the new Performance Package will leave your new GTI looking the same but will add in bigger brake discs and a mechanical limited-slip diff.

The order book for the new Golf GTI opens in the UK on 26th March with first deliveries in June. VW hasn’t come up with a UK price yet, but it will cost €28,350 in Germany, which probably means something like £26k in the UK.
