The Nissan Hi-Cross Concept previews the 2013 Nissan X-Trail

The Nissan Hi-Cross Concept is heading for a debut at the Geneva Motor Show, and appears to be a sibling for the Juke and Qashqai – the new 2013 Nissan X-Trail.

The photo above is a tease for the Nissan Hi-Cross Concept which is heading for Geneva, and dropped in to our inbox together with information from Nissan on the Hi-Cross. But all it says is “Here’s a taste of what’s to come”. Very enlightening.

But what the Hi-Cross appears to be is a tease for the new Nissan X-Trail, which shows a much sleeker vehicle than the current X-Trail, and an X-Trail that will fit much more easily in to Nissan’s very successful Crossover line-up - a big brother for the Qashqai and Juke.

Which means the X-Trail – when it arrives in production guise as the 2013 Nissan X-Trail – will not only look more car-like and more ‘Urban’, it should drive more like a car than an SUV. But we expect the new X-Trail to keep its 4WD and still be a competent mud-plugger – Nissan’s answer to the Land Rover Freelander – and keep the same, if tweaked, engines it currently enjoys, maybe with the addition of a smaller turbo diesel.

The current X-Trail is still a decent – if a bit bland – alternative to the Freelander, and the new X-Trail Platinum offers more kit, but the new X-Trail spawned from the Hi-Cross Concept looks set to make the X-Trail properly appealing.
