Nissan pits GT-R vs. Leaf Nismo RC vs. Altima V8 Supercar

Wed, 12 Mar 2014

Nissan had a little fun at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, Australia earlier this month. For an exhibition, it pitted its Leaf Nismo RC versus its Nissan GT-R road car and the Nissan Altima V8 Supercar. Thankfully, the whole contest was recorded for posterity.

We were allowed a few hot laps in the Leaf Nismo RC last year at the Nissan 360 event, where journalists can test everything the company has to offer. The Nismo RC has a lithium-ion battery with 48 modules and an 80kW AC synchronous motor. It delivers only 107 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque, but it weighs in at just more than a ton.

We've talked about the Nissan GT-R ad nauseam here; it's still one of our favorite supercars. The current model uses a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 to make 545 hp and 463 lb-ft of torque.

As for the Altima V8, we don't know the exact power, but series specifications say it needs to be in between 625 and 650 hp. RPMs are limited to 7,500, and it runs on E85.

To make the race fair, the Leaf RC started first. We won't spoil the finish for you, but we'll say it's close. Skip forward about 3:30 to get straight to the race.
