OFFICIAL: 2014 BMW 2 Series

The new BMW 2 Series has been leaking like a sieve for the last week or so, so BMW must be relieved it’s now official and out in the open. Much of the detail we’ve already reported is confirmed with the official reveal, and we already know what the 2 Series looks like thanks to the official photos leaking yesterday, , but now we know which models are going to be rolling in to BMW’s UK showrooms in early 2014.

There will be three 2-Series models available at launch – the 220i, 220d and M235i – which will cost £25,040, £25,868 and £34,250 respectively, with a choice of four trim levels - SE, Sport Modern and M Sport.

The M235i gets the M Sport trim by default, comes with a 321bhp version of BMW’s 3.0 litre turbo with a 0-62mph of 5.0 seconds with the standard manual ‘box and 4.8 seconds with the optional 8-speed auto.

The new 2-Series is longer, wider and lower than the old 1-Series Coupe with an extra 30mm in the wheelbase too. There’s seating for four in a good-looking BMW cabin that is pretty much the same as the latest 1-Series but with a few extra titivations to mark the 2-Series Coupe as a notch up the ladder.

Standard equipment – even at entry-level – is decent with Climate, 17″ alloys, Remote Locking, BMW Professional radio with iDrive, Bluetooth, USB, DAB, Auto Wipers and Mulki-Function leather steering wheel, with the Sport models adding black high-gloss interior trim, Exclusive 17″ alloys and sports seats, with Modern adding part leather, Dark pearl interior trim and different 17″ alloys.

If you opt for an M Sport model, you will get proper M Sport suspension, 18″ M Sport alloys, body kiy, High Gloss shadowline trim, M door sills, front sports seats, and Alcantara upholstery. The M Sport also gets the option of an Estoril Blue paint job.

As well as the three launch engines – 220i, 220d and M235i, another two engines will be available next summer in the 218i and 225d.

The new BMW 2 Series hits the market in March 2014.
