Jaguar F-Type Coupe and F-Type R Coupe revealed

We finally get the reveal of the Jaguar F-Type Coupe in Los Angeles, but we also get the debut of the F-Type we thought we might have to wait longer for – the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe. Whilst the F-Type Coupe and S Coupe get the same familiar V6 Supercharged engines as the F-Type Roadster, the new F-Type R gets Jaguar’s ‘R’ V8 S/C with 542bhp, a 0-60 mph of 4.0 seconds and a limited top speed of 186 mph.

That means the F-Type Coupe makes the jump from the two V6 versions straight to the V8 R, missing out the regular V8 S/C found in the Roadster, but at £85,000 the F-Type R Coupe is just £5k more than the V8 S Roadster and looks a hugely promising offering.

With adaptive dynamics, stiffer suspension (although you’ll probably never set the R to ‘chiropractor Needed’ mode on road), a dynamic mode that tweaks the steering, shift patterns and throttle response, a new electronic diff and torque vectoring system and bigger brakes (ceramic jobbies will also be an option) the F-Type R promises much.

The 340 and 380 PS versions of the V6 Supercharged F-Types are much the same in terms of performance as their Roadster siblings, but where they do differ is on price; the V6 F-Type Coupes are £7,285 cheaper than their Roadster siblings, making the F-Type Coupe £51,235 and the F-Type S Coupe £60,235.

The Jaguar F-Type Coupe is the car the F-Type should be; good looking, dynamic and hugely appealing. The V6 versions will be the big sellers, but with an R version that hits 60mph in 4.0 seconds (and will doubtless get in to the 3s in the real world) Jaguar has a proper halo car for the F-Type range.

The new Jaguar F-Type Coupe and R Coupe will go on sale in March 2014.
