Richard Hammond gets to play with the Pagani Zonda Cinque

Whilst we were busy wandering round the interweb today to make sure we’d got our facts right for the ‘Top Gear builds an Electric Car‘ piece, we came across a video of Richard Hammond out playing with the ultimate road-going Zonda – the Pagani Zonda Cinque.

As all of you who watch Top Gear already know, Hammond would marry a Zonda tomorrow if he could. So you won’t be entirely amazed to discover that the video is an homage to the Zonda, and not exactly objective. But why should it be objective? Surely that’s the point of a review – to get the testers point across. If all you want is nuts and bolts stuff all you need do is look at the Pagani Zonda Cinque Press Release.

But watching a video – or reading a road test – lets you feel the car. That’s why car makers are on the whole – happy to let journos loose on their cars. They may not always write what the car maker would like but on balance a subjective review is worth far more to a potential buyer – or a fan – than all the cold hard facts put together.

But the cold hard facts are very impressive on the Cinque. Just five have been made and the 678bhp Mercedes V12 will get to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. It will reach 125 mph in 9.6 seconds and stop from the same 125mph in just 4.3 seconds. So it goes rather well and stops even better. It looks glorious and sounds fantastic. And as Hammond says, it’s the new poster car for the 21st Century.

Enjoy the video. Usual rules apply with TG videos. TG are – understandably – quite precious about their videos and don’t like them being posted on YouTube. So it’s certainly here today, but it might not be tomorrow.
