Peugeot 407 Coupe – new diesels

Thu, 09 Jul 2009

Peugeot has introduced two new diesel engines for its stylish 407 Coupe

But it’s a decent car, and Peugeot has now made it more appealing with some updates for 2009 / 2010. The style changes are very minor – a bit of chrome trim and bigger door mirrors – and the 407 Coupe now gets  Bluetooth and hands-free as standard equipment on its Connect Navigation (RNEG).

But the big news is the new diesel engines. The engines are a 2.0 litre and a 3.0 litre, developed in conjunction with Ford. The 2.0 litre HDI PEF delivers 163bhp – an increase of 27bhp over the outgoing engine – with 140g/km CO2 emissions and an average of 52.3mph.

The new 3.0 litre engine replaces the outgoing 2.7 diesel and is basically the same engine as used in the latest Jaguars and Land Rovers. You get an extra 37bhp over the outgoing engine (240bhp), with emissions reduced to 189g/km, whilst economy improves to an average of 39.2 mph – a 15% improvement. The 3.0 litre V6 HDI PEF engine also manages to deliver a very decent 0-60mph time of 7.7 seconds.

Peugeot are making big play of the PEF (Particulate Emissions Filter) – which they were one of the first to deploy – as it makes these new engines Euro5 compliant. And by cutting down on particulate emissions and NOx it delivers what we’ve been banging on about for ages – real benefits to air quality, rather than the Mickey-Mouse benefits of CO2 targets.

The Peugeot 407 Coupe Sport HDi 163 FAP 6-speed manual is £22,990 and the Peugeot 407 Coupe Sport 3.0 V6 HDi 240 FAP 6-speed automatic £27,49o.
