The new Peugeot 508 (pictured) debuts in August

It’s four years since the Peugeot 508 first broke cover and pitched its tent as a French take on the Ford Mondeo. So now it’s time for some updates. The facelift for the 508 covers all three models in the 508 range – saloon, estate (SW) and the high-riding 508 RX – and mainly comprises of new bumpers front and back, new LED lights front and back, a re-profiled bonnet and a new grill with the Peugeot Lion front and centre.

Inside Peugeot has taken cues from the new 308 which means fewer buttons and more functionality moved to the 7″ touchscreen, new dials and instruments, better quality cabin and a heads-up display.

Peugeot is dropping the Euro 5 1.6 litre THP 156 engine and replacing it with a new Euro 6 1.6 litre THP 165 Stop & Start which, despite a bit more power, manages to be more economical and reduce emissions to 131g/km with the 6-speed manual.

On the diesel front there’s the 2.0-litre BlueHDi 150 6-speed manual for the saloon and SW and the 2.0-litre BlueHDi 180 EAT6 comes with emissions of just 111g/km.

The Hybrid4 versions of the 508 also continues with its combination of 163bhp 2.0-litre HDi Diesel engine driving the front wheels and 37bhp electric motor the rear now offering 85.6mpg and just 85g/km.

The new Peugeot 508 will debut at the Moscow and Chengdu Motor Shows in August before going on sale. Peugeot hasn’t revealed prices for the new 508, but don’t expect them to be significantly different to the current £19.5k starting point.
