Polestar-tuned Volvo V60, S60 coming to US in 2014

Fri, 07 Feb 2014

Volvo is bringing both the Polestar-tuned V60 wagon and the Polestar-tuned S60 sedan to the U.S. in 2014, the company said on Thursday at the Chicago Auto Show.

Unfortunately, we’re only getting 120 examples total stateside.

The Polestar versions get upgrades from the chassis to the exterior paint, including a more rigid structure, new springs that are 80 percent stiffer than the stock ones on the S60 R-Design, Ohlins shocks and 20-inch Polestar wheels. Bigger, 14.6-inch front discs are clamped by six-piston Brembo brakes, while the discs in the rear measure 11.8 inches.

The only exterior colors offered on the Polestar vehicles are black and “rebel” blue. The sheetmetal carries a number of aerodynamic upgrades, including new front and rear splitters, as well as a new rear spoiler and diffuser.

Under the hood of both the V60 and S60 is a turbocharged 3.0-liter engine, producing 345 hp at 5,700 rpm and 369 lb-ft of torque at just 2,800 rpm. A six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters sends power to a Haldex four-wheel-drive system, getting both vehicles to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. The sedan weighs in at 3,528 pounds, while the wagon tips the scales at 3,790 pounds. Top speed is rated at an electronically limited 155 mph.

Inside, an upgraded steering wheel, seats and other items get Polestar’s signature blue accents.

The Volvo V60 and S60 will be available at select U.S. dealerships in June. Pricing will be announced in a few months.
