Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 - less weight, more power

Yes, we have more than enough on the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 to know it’s for real, but Porsche hasn’t yet chosen to make it all official. But it probably will later today.

The 911 GT3 RS 4.0 has been rumoured for a while as the last swansong for the current generation of 911s, and the ultimate road-going GT3 RS to boot. And so it is.

The raft of photos above and below are testemenat to its existance, and even spec sheets have leaked, so we have more than a clue or two as to what’s on offer.

As you’ve probably worked out from the name, the GT3 RS 4.0 gets its flat-six straight from the GT3 RSR track car, but instead of being turned down for road use the GT3 RS 4.0 gets 45bhp more – 500bhp.

Just like the RSR, the GT3 RS 4.0 will have precious little in the way of creature comforts – all in the name of weight-shedding. That also explains the carbon fibre bonnet and boot, but the weight saved there is spent on a great big GT3 rear wing instead.

This is the ultimate hairy-chested, bonkers 911 for those with enough money to scare themselves stupid every time they go for a blat down a winding road. It would be a hoot for an hour or two on a tempting, quiet road, but the truth is a 911 Turbo S would get you there quicker – and with most of your internal organs where they started the journey.

But if you’re a wealthy boy-racer with a penchant for a touch of the hair shirts with your bonkers performance, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 is the car for you.

You’ll probably need to be quick as Porsche won’t make many – and have a decent bank balance – think around £150k.
