Porsche Panamera Turbo S: Official

Wed, 30 Mar 2011

The Porsche Panamera Turbo S is now official

Yesterday we reported that Porsche was about to reveal a new halo at the top of the Panamera range – the Porsche Panamera Turbo S. And today they’ve obliged.

And it looks like we got pretty much everything right. Which is always nice.

We said that we expected the Panamera Turbo S to come with 550bhp and do 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds, and it does (oh, alright, it’s actually 550HP which equates to 542BHP). Ridiculous though it is, that makes the Panamera Turbo S faster than the 911 GT3 RS.

Porsche has dragged the extra horses out of the Panamera’s 4.8 litre V8 Turbo by fitting aluminium turbine wheels to the turbos and tweaking the ECU. Economy figures stay the same at 24.6mpg (unless you actually use the extra power) and, we expect,  emissions are unchanged too.

As predicted, you’ll get extra toys on the Turbo S. PDCC and torque vectoring - which really does help you go round corners quicker – along with a limited slip diff at the back make the Turbo S more nimble, and Sport Chrono will tweak up the engine and suspension when you’re in Sport+.

On the cosmetic front there’s are new 20″ Turbo II alloys and two-tone leather (although Porsche hasn’t sent us any interior photos). We had hoped for ceramic brakes and Sport design Package in the price, but it seems not.

The Panamera Turbos S will cost £122,623 and be on sale in the Summer. And it will actually debut at New York next month, rather than Shanghai as we expected.

Although you can bet your boots it’ll be at Shanghai too.
